Nothing For Breakfast – Place (Idra Recordings)

‘Place’, the debut album by Nothing For Breakfast, One of the new band breaking out of the Italian indie rocktronica scene, they were formed in Florence in 2013, with the four members sharing a heartfelt passion for solid rock and roll.
‘Place’ shows the boundless love for ’90s neopsych-rock, especially the sound of producerDave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, MGMT and Tame Impala), as well as The Strokes and Beck.

Made up of Samuele Cangi(guitar, synth), Jonathan Shackleford(vocals, guitar), Francesco Cangi(bass, synth) and Marco Cali(drums), Nothing For Breakfast roots lie in a love of tuneful songwriting.
‘After decades of experience with my previous band, Passogigante, I picked up the guitar, just like the old days, when I was a kid and wanted to play classics like ‘Dear Prudence’,’Happiness Is A Warm Gun’ and ‘Norwegian Wood’says Samuele Cangi.

The album ‘Place’ is preceded by the single ‘Castles Fall’, available digitally from 6th November. ‘Place’ contains twelve new songs, composed by Samuele Cangi and Jonathan Shackleford with artist production by Marco Olivi(Ghemon, Ex-Otago, Selton):
‘The great musical knowledge, combined with creativity and passion, enables Nothing For Breakfast to express a diverse range of ideas and solutions: electronic rhythms alternating with played parts, synth intertwine with electric guitars and tight vocal harmonies are just some of the ingredients used to support solid songs, all delivered with great personality’, says Olivi
For the video to accompany the single, Nothing For Breakfast worked with directorIvo Krankowski, who was born and raised in the USA, bu has close ties with Poland and Italy. Influenced by the famous picture of’The Sea Concerto (The Panoramic Sea Happening)’, taken by the Polish avant garde artistTadeusz Kantor in Lazy, a village north of Krakow, Krankowski has managed to create ‘timeless’ aesthetic connections between music and images, creating a hypothetical setting of Kantor’s photo set, just before his celebrated shoot; an imaginary set with various characters who share a lifetime of memories with the conductor.
