Founded by Justin Mckenzie and Adam Moses in 2003, Jazz re:freshed is a contemporary jazz record label based in London. The label has been home to some of the most exciting talent to come out of the London Jazz scene, (think Shabaka Hutchings, SEED Ensemble, Nubya Garcia, Rosie Turton) but it doesn’t stop there, Jazz re:freshed also hold a weekly live residency, annual festival and band development programs. From their coveted 5ive series, to their annual showcases at SXSW, Jazz re:freshed uphold their commitment to showcase new british Jazz talent, proving themselves a cornerstone of the London scene.
Recent years have seen Jazz re:freshed gain widespread acclaim. Speaking to label manager Sam she mentioned ‘having SEED Ensemble’s album Driftglass being shortlisted for a Mercury Music Prize in 2019’ – one of the most prestigious modern music awards – as one of their key achievements. The label now have another success under their belt, recently winning the Best Independent Label award at the AIM Awards 2020, which Sam described as ‘pretty amazing’.
Looking to the future, Jazz re:freshed intend to keep their foot on the gas ‘Our plans for the future are pretty much to be able to keep going and doing what we do – supporting brilliant jazz talent and giving it the recognition it deserves with expert curation [from] our Chief Execs’ – watch this space. This weekend, Jazz re:freshed will be hosting their own online virtual festival ‘JAZZ RE:FEST’, live streaming this Sunday 23rd August 5-9PM BST, hosted on the Jazz re:freshed YouTube channel.
