Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.
Funk
Lack of Afro‘s Music For Adverts has become something of a classic since it’s release on Freestyle back in 2014. Long sold out, and commanding pretty high prices second hand, it’s about time it was repressed… now the wait is over! We welcome Past Due to our distribution roster this week, and we’re carrying their latest release, a reissue of NYC Boogie duo Netwerk‘s debut.
There’s a whole feast of 7″s this week, The Grease Traps previewing their funky new album on Record Kicks, Shaka Loves You with a classic of theirs on Bombstrikes, Soopasoul landing on Jalapeno and Funkin Basstards on Breakbeat Paradise.
Nu-Disco, R&B
Also on 7″ – People Need People / The Higher Love from Nicola Conte and Gianluca Petrella beautifully merges Detroit future dance to afrobeat and spiritual jazz through a nu-disco sound. And after selling out in record time earlier this year, Lynda Dawn’s stunning Roses on label Extra Soul Perception gets another run.
On the 12″ front Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay teams up with Alexander Bright for this dancefloor-filling release on Athens of the North… proper heaters these!
Reggae, Dub
MC Majical & Kibir La Amrak combine grime & roots on Before Zero, the final result is a genre bending testament to modern RasTafari music. Oregon sextet Elite Beat continue their dubwise world-groove mission with a two track 12″ of what sounds like organic, in the moment live takes with an intro count to boot.
Jazz
Le-Le by The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble is a unique one off Spiritual Soul-Jazz outing with Avant Garde touches and more than a hint of Afro-Cuban Orientalism. Berlin-based Swedish dynamic duo of sax man Otis Sandsjö and bassist/producer Petter Eldh return with new music on We Jazz Records. Evocative jazz and outlandish improvisation come together in Premonitions of the Unbuilt City, the upcoming release from Matt Rogers and Kit Downes.
Dance, Electronic
For their second Re-Issue Series release Banoffee Pies team up with London duo Euphonic for a deep dive into their back catalogue set across two releases. With 10 years in the ‘biz’ firmly under his belt, Jiah Wells is poised to release the first full-length LP of his Galtier project, Pulchra Es Elementis.
VANITY RE-MAKE/RE-MODEL Vol.1 is a remix album using material from the Tokyo-based project Tolerance by Junko Tange from Vanity Records. For the second edition of Tessellate’s VA series Teamwork, they have looked to Peru (SINM) and Lithuania (S II P) for a fast-paced and breaks focused release.
Hip Hop
Mr Doris and D-Funk join forces with UK rap aficionado MysDiggi to bring us hip hop of the highest order in the form of Cruise Control.
