Kudos New Releases 22.04.2022

Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.

Jazz, Fusion, Disco

The Psychedelic Freaks is a new alias of Horatio Luna’s. The aptly titled debut LP Passing Through The Doorways Of Your Mind is an introspective 70s fusion space odyssey. Founded in 2019, Astral Flex is a band of musicians/producers born of an ascendant local culture of producer based, improvised music in Melbourne, Australia. Recorded on the 50th anniversary of humankind’s first step on the moon, their debut release I Can See My House From Here is presented here in two forms; as a spacey nu-jazz improvisation on Side A, and as a collection of house/electronic remixes on Side B.

El Combo Batanga delivers a powerful double-sider 7 inch. Latin funk, Cuban flavour and a tasty drum break for Ají Gua Guao, a certified floor filler, already supported by Craig Charles and Dj Koko. On the other side, EL Barrio en la Mirada is a powerful Latin Soul number, with Ale’s vocals shining in a song that explores the experience of being an immigrant in a big city. Another smashing 12″ from AOTN. Hans Hass‘ masterpiece Welche Farbe Hat Der Wind gets an official reissue treatment.

Soul

Bring On The Good Times is the debut album by Dawn Patrol, a brand new Dutch collective led by the prolific producer, songwriter and musician Phil Martin (Jazzinvaders, AIFF, Martin & Garp) sets out to explore the essence of West Coast music, a late 70s Softrock spirit and European pop sensibility.

Extra Soul Perception is a collaboration and community music platform which started life between the UK, Kenya and Uganda, and continues to grow and connect independent musicians worldwide. In November 2019, eight artists from Kenya, Uganda and the UK spent a week in Nairobi together exploring new tangents in soul music, the result was their 2020 debut EP New Tangents In Kampala, London & Nairobi Vol. 1.

Electronic

Thinking About Dancing is Liam de Bruin‘s debut EP, with six tracks of soulful deep house and grooves, including a club-ready remix from Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange. East Coast Love Affair is back for summer banger season, Athens of the North have cooked up some utter beasts in their studio. Japanese producer Shun debuts on Central Processing Unit with The Door, an EP of hard-bitten, acidic electro bangers.

Ambient

Hotel Paral.lel, released in 1997, marks the full length debut release from Christian Fennesz, originally released by MEGO, following the twitching drone as found on the 1995 EP Instrument, also included in this deluxe 2LP reissue.
