Jazz, Fusion
The classic Greg Foat Group line-up returns with Blue Lotus featuring special guests Art Themen on soprano saxophone and Morgan Simpson (Black Midi) on drums. The Shaolin Afronauts are back with The Fundamental Nature of Being, an epic five album release that expands the sonic vision of the ensemble to towering new heights of burning afro-funk alongside esoteric and ethereal new sonic excursions.
The spontaneous creativity of Jazz meets the traditional rhythms of the Ketu Nation on Kan. Tramp re-release of Dianne Elliott‘s monstrous vocal Jazz double-sider, When He Speaks. Also on Tramp, some serious German Jazz Funk from Frederic Rabold Crew.
Electronic
On 12’’ this week, Blackploid delivers sick electro on the Sheffield label Central Processing Unit, and Sa Pa releases lush dub techno soundscapes EP on the new imprint Lamassu. Push The Fader give us the first dancefloor record from Rawls, the super producer who has worked with the likes of the Beastie Boys, Yasiin Bey & Talib Kweli. Tokyo-based label Diskotopia co-founder Matt Lyne returns as A Taut Line for his first solo full-length in over five years.
Ambient
Music for the Moon and the Trees is a collaboration between classical guitarist Morgan Szymanski and experimental musician Tommy Perman. Experiential brings us La Linea Gialla from EMG, consisting of field recordings captured in different railway stations across Europe (including a beautiful +20 page photo-booklet). Karlrecords present Zeitkratzer‘s critically acclaimed interpretations of compositions by Alvin Lucier.
Instrumental
Berlin-based, Casablanca-born multi-instrumental producer and creative tour de force Saib presents his LP Unwind, a sunny, tropical-flavoured sonic voyage that includes features from Hip Hop OG Masta Ace and Rotterdam producer ØDYSSEE. Rounding off this week’s new releases, there are two CDs on Gusstaff Records from Szorstkie, and Dead Cat in a Bag.
