Jazz
Over Tage is Svaneborg Kardyb‘s third album, following Knob (2019) and Haven (2020) and marks their debut for Gondwana Records. Jazmine Myra‘s Horizons gets a much-needed repress. Jazz’n’Beats is a new mini-compilation selected by Oonops and it’s named as the eponymous Oonops Drops series on Brooklyn Radio.
Ambient
This week we have two tapes on Tapeworm, from Stonecirclesampler and William Fowler Collins. Zeitkratzer‘s critically acclaimed interpretations of ground-breaking compositions by James Tenney are now available on vinyl.
Sunda Arc are brothers Nick Smart and Jordan Smart. Best known as key members of folk and jazz influenced minimalists Mammal Hands, their Sunda Arc project takes inspiration from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Rival Consoles, Moderat and Nils Frahm. ØYR is the fourth release from the Oslo based Lomas Productions consisting of musicians/producers Lars Mellgren and Thomas Hauge. Constructive announce their fifth release, reworks by TIBSLC of Adrian Corker‘s recent album Since It Turned Out Something Else.
Funk
Freestyle drop the first official reissue of a much sought-after UK boogie gem, Steppin’ Out On The Groove, from Tony Jackson, originally released on the Switch label in 1983 and recorded at the legendary Landsdowne Studios! Confunktion Records very own Mr. Confuse returns with a cover version of Carmen’s 80s Boogie/Electro funk classic Time To Move in true organic funk style.
International
Zehra reissue the oud/viola virtuoso Simon Shaheen‘s interpretations of pieces by one of the Middle East’s most important 20th Century composers, Mohamed Abdel Wahab. More in the new series from Jazzman, Greasy Mike reminisces about the time he was shipwrecked and washed up all alone on a remote island in the South Pacific.
Bird Moves is the jazz offspring of the German band Noetics. Originally founded as a classical formation devoted to jazz, the members quickly explored its related styles. Without genre restrictions Bird Moves are mixing Jazz with anything from Funk to Dub and had their debut release on Agogo Records. The timeless songs of Mek A Menshun amply reward the listener who can penetrate into the mystical musical realms of Rastafari. Begging the Moon is a collection focused upon an early-to-mid 20th century style of Thai popular song, commonly named Phleng Thai sakon (meaning “song which is both Thai and universal”).
Electronic
Kalabrese the pleasant Rumpelzampano from Zürich is back with 11 songs that get under your skin and straight into your hips. Beatservice Records are thrilled to present the hotly-anticipated third album from Oslo-based production maestro, Third Attempt.
Future music duo Second Woman‘s sophomore full-length for Spectrum Spools further hones their distinctive fusion of shapeshifting software sculpture and tessellated footwork. Compost present this much sought after 2-LP from Felix Laband.
