Jay Glass Dubs – DJ HUMBLE (Expanded Edition) (Extended Techniques)

Boomkat Product Review of last year’s EP

Athenian bassbin mutant JGD does breakcore jungle pressure as DJ Humble on the crazed first release thru his Extended techniques label – RIYL DJ/Rupture, Om Unit, Dev/Null, Lee Gamble

The six track EP gives his newly birthed label a febrile start with delirious augmentations of classic ’90s UK jungle and its rogue offshoots in breakcore, spiced and ramped with Vangelisian synths and traces of the future folk dance impetus that underlines much of his work. A pair of classically star-gazing synth works in ‘Seconds Away’ and the Global Communication-esque 10 minute finale ‘Her House in the Sea’ bookend the wildest meat of the session, which wrong-foots with a serene intro to ‘A Cut Above’ before spiralling into flayed drums centripetally rinsed at breakcore tempo for 10 minutes, setting a template he bends between the tongue-tip hot-stepper ‘As Happy as Sandboy’, the reeling body possession of ‘Blue Plate Special’, and best of all, the slower, air stepping trample of ‘Wing It’ which reminds us of Lee Gamble’s jungle diversions as much as mad Praxis and Hekate cuts.

Tipped for the mad ones!
