John Askew – Z List Uber Star (The Record Republic)

John Askews second artist album from 2008.

“John Askew is a great producer – one of the most talented and inspiring musicians of the last years. I know him for a long time and he always throws out exciting stuff. Spinning his sounds in my sets are always big joy for the crowd as well as for myself” PAUL VAN DYK.

Z List Uber Star is John Askew’s highly anticipated second artist album – due for release on October 27thon Discover Records. Early reactions have been amazing, including from Paul van Dyk, who hammered the title track consistently in his recent sets – including it in his Essential mix from this year’s Colors Fest. Eddie Halliwell and Above & Beyond have also been championing the massive ‘Fade to Black’, which has already become one of this year’s summers anthems and John’s debut vocal release “Nothing Left Between Us” feat. Senadee will be a big single for Matt Hardwick’s new label “Kill The Lights”.

In September John will begin to tour the album including an extensive run of gigs across Australia, New Zealand, The Far East, North & South America and of course Europe. While down under, he will also be recording a live DJ mix album from the country’s most famous club – Home in Sydney.

As a DJ, John continues his long standing residency at The Gallery (Friday’s at Ministry of Sound, London) where he can regularly be seen and heard rocking the dancefloor alongside the likes of Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Paul Oakenfold.

The last 18 months has seen John play prime time sets at some of the world’s coolest festivals including his legendary set on the main stage at the Nature One Festival in Germany – which was broadcast live across the whole country on its main radio station – Sunshine Live.

After early single successes with tracks like ‘Vellum’, ‘The Door’ and ‘New Dimension’, John has gone on to deliver release after release of consistently high quality club music. More recent releases have included ‘Blackout’, ‘Homesick’, ‘All or Nothing’ and ‘Chime’, all of which have graced the playlists of the worlds best DJ’s and have helped cement John’s position as one of the UK’s leading trance / techno producers. As a remixer John has worked for numerous high profile labels such as Euphonic, Afterglow, Ministry Of Sound and Paul Van Dyk’s legendary Vandit Records.

He released his debut album ‘Lower The Tone’ in 2006 to much critical acclaim in the press and within 4 weeks of its release, the album had sold out.

After over a decade of consistently hard work, Paul van Dyk requested John to be the only guest at his legendary birthday party in Berlin. In 2006 Armin Van Buuren requested John as the headline guest DJ to play alongside him at his massive A State of Trance 250 party in the Netherlands. In the same year Tiesto specifically requested John to be the main guest alongside him at one of his few UK dates.

With the hype building Pete Tong approached John in 2007 to do an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1. A rare honour and one that confirmed John’s status as a highly respected DJ within the premier league of the international scene.

John’s Discover and Discover Dark labels have established themselves as two of the world’s most cutting edge and influential outputs for high quality trance and techno and the past 3 years have seen John play in all the far corners of the globe.
