Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.
Dan Berkson, former member of dance music duo Berkson & What, turns his hand to jazz with his debut album Dialogues on Freestyle Records – an accomplished and rewarding body of work pulled together during his final days in London before relocation to California.
Next up, SeekersInternational returns to Tokyo-based label Diskotopia for the follow up to 2016’s Ragga Preservation Society.
On 12” we have a new release from the enigmatic duo Two Shell titled Wedding Practice / End Of The Party, this one won’t stick around for long so act quick! Our second 12” of the week is from Wheez-ie on John Frusciante and Aura T-09’s Evar Records – already played by the likes of Nina Kraviz, VTSS and Cera Khin.
On the darker end of the spectrum, Body Portals deliver a spellbinding foray into down-tempo caustic temperatures; where samples and hardware create a full-on, yet carefully crafted singular sonic experience.
52 Beats is project initially started on Bandcamp with Snips uploading 1 beat per week over the course of a year with an accompanying behind the scenes video. This is the final release of the entire project as a limited run cassette.
Death Is Not The End explore the music scene that began to emerge in late 1950s Phnom Penh (Cambodia’s capital). This collection documents some of these early home-grown slow rock, pop & rnb 45 recordings from the early 60s, prior to the further embrace of US psych & garage rock-orientated sounds in the mid 60s and into the Vietnam war era.
Finally, Dialogo reissue the only album from Roman quintet Spirale, consisting of just four tracks, most of which taken by the 13-minute long “Cabral, Anno 1” and the marvellous 17-minute “Peperoncino (Cose vecchie, cose nuove)” Spirale is an incredibly balanced and flowing record that sounds still fresh and inspired even today
