Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.
Jazz, Fusion
Leeds-based saxophonist Jasmine Myra presents her debut album on Gondwana Records. Produced by label founder Matthew Halsall, Horizons is a soulful and up-lifting journey through Jazz and Electronica. We also have a new double LP from Greg Foat on Blue Crystal Records. Psychosynthesis is a dreamy journey awash with synth soundscapes – a must listen.
Expo Botanica completes a trilogy of CAE albums, following the critically-acclaimed LPs Une Vie Cent Detours and Les Sourdes Oreilles. Earlier this year Oonops dropped his 150th episode of “Oonops Drops” including exclusive guest mixes from around the globe like Skratch Bastid, Coldcut, Rich Medina, Kutiman. To celebrate he invited artists from his show and network to join him for this multifarious single compilation.
Ambient
We have a super interesting ambient cassette from producer duo & couple Yann Novak and Robert Takahashi Crouch from LA. The first iteration of the Unbuilt Sound series from First Light Records sees Flora Yin-Wong retreat to an isolated cabin outside Machynlleth, North Wales, to collect the field recordings that provide the basis for her folklore-inspired album, The Sacrifice. Having first released on Grade 10 back in 2015 with the labels inaugural release entitled Misery, heavenly duo Kollaps return with Growth, a 5-track experimental EP inspired by travels through space and time, showcasing dream-like soundscapes, intergalactic communications, and hints of high intensity grit.
House, Techno
By popular demand 1993 from C. M. Toni is now available on a limited edition vinyl release. Liza Aikin & Monolog present their debut collaborative EP, Until There Was Nothing on LA’s Evar Records.
Electro-Funk, Disco
Freestyle puts out another reissue 12″ in their drive to unearth rare and classic UK funk, soul & boogie records – this time a much needed pressing of the late Candy McKenzie‘s heavy boogie-funk cover of Patrice Rushen‘s classic Remind Me. One of Piero Umiliani‘s most dancey tracks ever is finally available again on 12” vinyl, both in its original version and in a special edit retouched by Jolly Mare that further increases its dancefloor potential.
Middle-Eastern
Death Is Not The End deliver the second part of stunning Persian-tuned piano pieces from Iranian pianist & composer Morteza Mahjubi.
