Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.
Electronic
Dirty machine gun funk, dripping in fudgy acidic grooves on this twisted heater from native London badass Shy One. Techno collides with Jazz Fusion across three jams recorded straight out the box and cut exclusively onto wax for Eglo Records. This 7″ marks the first in a series of releases from the kinetic, undefinable talent.
For his Central Processing Unit debut, John Shima was tasked to produce four tracks using a single small modular setup. Unsurprisingly given the pedigree of this seasoned machine-funk pro, Shima aced the assignment.
Editions Mego presents The Psychologist, the sophomore album by the Istanbul born and raised, Berlin based electronic music composer and sound artist Hüma Utku.
Nu-Disco
The second in the 12″ EP releases series featuring reinterpretations of tracks taken from the People Need People album, Nicola Conte & Gianluca Petrella‘s brilliant collaborative jazz dance album released in 2021.
S-Tone Inc. reworks in a nu-disco key the entire Body & Soul record, herein named The Disco Experience.
Funk
Come Get This Love is a titillating ballad highlighted with exquisite soulful musicianship from John “The Saint” Morris and Wilfred “Nenja” Frelixher, and cozied perfectly with amorous vocals from the Chicago-based songstress Raja-Nee. Shawn Lee follows up his country-soul solo album Rides Again, released in 2019, with an even more personal, intriguing set of songs. Jazzman present Reality‘s Disco Party album, for the very first time in agreement with the surviving members of the band.
Sabrosa pays tribute to the Beastie Boys with two instro-mental cuts that borrow elements from Sure Shot out of their classic album, Ill Communication. We welcome to another sonic treat from the Four Flies 45s series. This 7″ combines for the first time ever the two grooviest and sexiest tracks from Gianni Ferrio‘s score to Steno’s detective comedy La poliziotta. Also from this series, two of the best Italian rare grooves ever are finally back on 7” for the first time since their original French release on the format!
Jazz, Fusion
Gondwana Records are delighted to welcome saxophonist and flautist Chip Wickham to the family. An original member of the Gondwana Orchestra, Chip played on Matthew Halsall’s debut album Sending My Love and has regularly played with the Orchestra while also leading his own excellent band. Death Is Not The End bring us the second volume in a survey of the modern jazz & hard-bop scenes that emerged in the new cultural melting pot of post war London, with recordings from the end of the 1940s through to the early 1960s.
Phil Dawson is a top London guitarist who has worked and schooled himself extensively in many different African, Latin and Brazilian music traditions, now he’s releasing a new mini 6 track album of original compositions under his own name. Edizioni Ishtar and Schema Records proudly celebrate the 15th anniversary of one of their most successful releases and artists with the first ever vinyl edition of Toco‘s Outro Lugar. Saltpond City Band are a buoyant 8-piece outfit hailing from Ghana, blending soulful highlife and percussive funk in their new album Boko A Ko.
Ambient
Karlrecords present Zwischenraum, the second chapter of the Raum trilogy by Dominik Grenzler aka An Moku and Stefan Schmidt. Foam On A Wave launch their new library series with an incredible 12-track selection of music from David Toop.
