Athens Of The North
Kicking off, Athens of the North drop by with two new albums, the Coast to Coast album is an unreleased slice of magical modern soul from 1976, and we’ve also got a second volume of their essential For The Love Of You – putting a lovers twist on classic soul records. If you loved the first one as much as we did you won’t want to miss this one either!
Jazz
Further albums this week include a repress of Dwight Trible‘s Inspirations from Gondwana, this one coming on orange vinyl. Azzurro 80 debut on Four Flies with a limited 7″ inspired by the 80s Italian library scene.
Drum & Bass, Broken Beat, Electronic Hip Hop
One of the hottest names in jungle right now, Tim Reaper makes his debut on Banoffee Pies alongside Comfort Zone. Band on the Wall’s latest 7″ release is from producer, musician and DJ, Contours. Known for applying his own percussive dexterity, his sound is placed within the intersection of House, Jazz, Broken-Beat and percussive experimentation. On U-TRAX is a luscious electronic East Coast Hip Hop album from Thavius Beck.
Alternative, Classical
From 1978 we have Horacio Vaggione’s first solo recorded work; originally released on the Italian Cramps Records label as the 18th volume of the Nova Musicha series dedicated to contemporary avant-garde composers, La Maquina de Cantar is now made available again on Dialogo. Also from the experimental realm, BJ Nilsen’s latest record Irreal is a three part suite of recordings from in Austria, Russia, South Korea and The Benelux. Lastly, international power duo Dasom Baek (traditional Korean flutes) and Violeta García (cello) present their debut album Absence on Kit Records.
