Funk, Soul
Ostinato Records bring us Beja sound from Noori and his Dorpa Band -an unheard outfit from Port Sudan, the heart of Beja culture. Carlton Jumel Smith is back on Timmion Records, doing what he does best: grooving, testifying and romancing his way into your heart. Meet Bella Brown & The Jealous Lovers, imagine a band that is Sharon Jones meets James Brown while putting a modern twist on 70’s soul and funk music.
Burundian soul singer J.P. Bimeni & The Black Belts has released a highly recommended Afro-Funk LP on Lovemonk. Athens Of The North reissue The Prince Of Georgia Soul from Arthur Ponder, and another classic Soul/Funk from Ike Noble & The Uptights.
Jazz
Robin Jones‘ Denga is his first recording from 1971, it’s a scintillating fusion of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazillian rhythms laden with heavy Fender Rhodes sounds and no less than three Afro-Latin Percussionists. ATA Records is pleased to announce the release of Early Works Vol.2: Music From The Archives, a compilation of tracks recorded in the fledgling days of the label paired with some rediscovered treasures from more recent years. Argentinian pianist Luis Vecchio‘s Contactos is perfect cosmic jazz from the Canary Islands. Matasuna Records journey goes to South Africa for the first time to reissue two superb Afro-/Jazzfunk songs by the band Freeway.
Electronic
Commissioned by the legendary concert venue Bad Bonn in Düdingen, Switzerland, and the KRAN project, Bonn Route is a collaborative album by electronic musician Feldermelder and percussionist Julian Sartorius. Death Is Not The End present the second volume in a two-part collection of pirate radio adverts & idents, taken from recordings of London stations between 1984 & 1993. The team at Diskotopia bring us Hyetal‘s new EP, States.
Reggae
King Earthquake and Reggae On Top are back with a load of SUPER limited 7″s.
Hip Hop
Two years after the well-received compilation Nebula, Himalaya Collective (probably the largest team of beatmakers in Poland) returns with another release. Lastly, Cappo, Nottingham’s finest returns with this drum heavy hip hop banger produced by Doctor Zygote and Jazz T.
