Welcome to this week’s genre-spanning edition of Kudos New Releases, some nice bits ready to ship this week, let’s take a look at them.
Funk & Soul
Kicking things off, Edinburgh based label Athens of the North have reissued Rivage’s rare modern soul EP from the 1970’s titled ‘Sittin’ On It’ – expect solid funk grooves and sweet soul tracks from the four piece. Next up, we have some classic R&B from Tramp Records, an 11 track album of The Best of Tyree Glenn Jr.
Reggae, Jazz & Post Punk
Moving on we have a 2 track single from LA reggae veterans The Lions with a perfectly timed sentimental summer blast, released on Names You Can Trust.
We Jazz Records’ Otis Sandsjö is back with Y-OTIS 2, Sandsjö and his close associate, bassist/producer Petter Eldh (of Koma Saxo), deepen their vision of genre-bending, forward-looking “liquid jazz” of tomorrow.
Taking things a bit further afield, Athens of the North’s second repress of the week is a post punk LP offering from Crisrail titled ‘The Game of Music’.
Electronic
Bordeaux based producer Leon Revol lands on Church with his debut LP of downtempo electronic gems, whilst Anthony Child & Daniel Bean’s The Transcendence Orchestra return to Editions Mego. There’s also a new album from tropical beat maestro Captain Planet on Bastard Jazz, and a repress of Incarnations With All Due Respect courtesy of Lovemonk.
A couple of 12″s worth mentioning, Al Chem with some foggy lo-fi electronic soul on Compost and Philippos Sipano and The MPC Orchestra on Kalakuta Soul.
