Electronic
Bastard Jazz a DJ friendly 4xLP to celebrate their 20th anniversary with brand new cuts from its current roster, plus a selection of catalogue material, some of it classic, some of it overlooked, and some of it unpressed. Available on CD and cassette, A/N AKA Apollo Noir is on OOH-sounds with an impressive 8-tracker that delves deeper into his music and casts a strong yet versatile sonic alloy of atmosphere, beat, voice and texture. On Touched Revolutions, Serge Geyzel combines his affinity to the early 2000’s electronica with the aesthetics of electro and dark ambient colours.
Athens of the North
We have a big selection of new AOTN 7″s this week. After last month’s Memphis 45 (the same band) we have two unreleased Homegrown Syndrome singles rescued from an acetate in Jerry Jones’ attic. Also recorded in Memphis, Leather Pants by The Brotherhood Band is a red hot soul 45.
Billy Bruner is not only Tulsa’s OG soul man, but he also wrote the best 80s soul tribute to his home city, T-U-L-S-A, not just a great nod but an earworm of the highest order. Disco Thing by Seaquence is a banger from Dave Haffner’s amazing disco with a feeling comp. And finally, Treasure Mind is a ’70s masterpiece out of Austin, Texas and a Holy Grail of the highest order.
R&B
First Word brings a limited import 7’’ – from Children Of Zeus & Black Milk and Allysha Joy & Tall Black Guy.
Soundtrack
Finally putting an end to a long wait for library music lovers, Four Flies Records is proud to present the first reissue of Piero Umiliani‘s Paesaggi – a record that, despite remaining for many years pretty obscure compared to other titles in the maestro’s discography, is now regarded by collectors and experts as the gold standard in Italian library music. Also on Four Flies, a super juicy treat for all 7-inch vinyl devotees: the first 45 single ever to feature tracks from Giuliano Sorgini’s masterpiece Zoo Folle.
Jazz
Joona Toivanen Trio makes their We Jazz Records debut with their new album Both Only. A landmark work for the long standing group, the album showcases a new sound for the band, trekking deep into new ideas for an acoustic jazz piano trio.
