Kudos New Releases 28.10.2022

Welcome to this week’s run down of physical releases shipping from the Kudos warehouse.

Soul, R&B

The Amsterdam-based producer, keyboardist, and music-lover Soul Supreme, known for his covers of classic cuts by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def or MF DOOM steps away from the cover format for a moment, and channels his fresh take into remixes of two INI Movement releases. First Word Records welcomes Eye Of The High to the label, with this vinyl-only double-dose of Brit Funk magic – Seismic Shift and Elevate. Extra Soul Perception welcome a new artist to the label, Paddy Fred, with three tracks of antipodean psych soul for his Spells 7″.

Afro, Latin

This autumn sees the return of the unique cross-continental collaboration between Ghanain xylophonist Isaac Birituro and his band of live international musicians, The Rail Abandon. Meridian Brothers creator and musical savant, Eblis Álvarez lends his expertise to a new emerging septet of tropicalistas, La Sonora Mazurén, named after a northern neighbourhood in Bogotá.

Bogotá’s La Pambelé steps into the ring for their debut release on Names You Can Trust, and with it, they’ve joined a storied history in Colombia’s prized salsa tradition. Jazz Room present a superb Jazz flavoured Latin Funk album recorded in 1977 by Grammy Award-winning Carlos Franzetti when he was a struggling musician trying to get his first breaks in a tough New York Jazz scene.

Jazz, Funk

Two tracks from Presto‘s Basement Beats album are presented here for Mukatsuku Records in a limited edition pressing of 400 only copies. A unique long-player by Germany’s Funk champions The Mighty Mocambos: Scénarios is a wild journey through iconic performances captured on 8-track tape.

More solid UK boogie & brit-funk courtesy of Freestyle Records – this time giving the 12″ reissue treatment to short-lived group Cool Runners‘ 1982 single Checking Out, backed up with sought-after High on a Feeling. A new series from Jazzman featuring the lowest of the lowball schlock n’ roll 45s never known to exist! The Wrocław band Ślina returns with their third studio album, this time recorded with Mikołaj Trzaska.

Freestyle deliver parts one and three of The Fundamental Nature of Being 5LP Box (released a month ago) from The Shaolin Afronauts

Ambient

Karlrecords give us five albums from Iannis Xenakis: Diamorphoses / Concret PH / Orient Occident / Bohor, Taurhiphanie / Voyage Absolu Des Unari Vers Andromède / Gendy 3 / S.709, Hibiki Hana-Ma / Mycenae Alpha / Polytope de Cluny, Persepolis and La Légende D’Eer.

Languoria is a collaboration between Denmark’s Sofie Birch and Poland’s Antonina Nowacka. Stefan Goldmann‘s Call and Response has been crafted entirely from artificial reverb and nothing else: historic and contemporary units, responding only to brief electronic impulses (clicks).

Electronic

ilolli-pop is the second album by prolific composer and trombonist-improviser Alex Paxton. The well-balanced mix of classic and brand new dance music from U-Trax features internationally renowned artists like Urban Dance Squad, Quazar, Black Sun Empire, C-Mon & Kypski, Bong-Ra, Feiertag, Colin Benders, Pitto and Tinlicker, as well as a host of artists that have earned their spurs in their respective dance music niches. If you ever wondered what ambient music of the 21st century could sound like, then you should explore the musical spheres of ifsonever. This colourful debut-album draws a blueprint of an urban ambient club record of a parallel universe.
